Meeting Venue Javea Social Centre
Meeting Day and Time The first Friday of the Month.
From 16:00 to 18:00.

When the Discussion was started, it was intended as a  structured 'Debating Society'. However this didn't seem to appeal, perhaps the imagined formality frightened people off. When we called it 'The Discussion Group' more people became interested, and we got it off the ground. It is very informal. No one has to speak if they don't want to, they can just sit and listen, but you would be surprised to find how often you find that you do have an opinion, which you want to voice.

5 new members have joined the group which has made our discussions more interesting because of the diversity of opinion and we look forward to meeting more new members in the future.

There will be no meeting in April as the first Friday in the month is Good Friday.

The next meeting will take place on Friday 4th May 2012 in the Javea Social Centre from 4.00 pm – 6.00 pm when the topic will be

“Looking at Comparative Religions”.

New members are very welcome.

The subject for each month is chosen the previous month. Anyone can suggest a subject, and if we all agree, that is the one we shall discuss. We have 7 or 8 stalwarts who always turn up, but we would really like more members, it would make for a greater divergence of views and would make more fun for everyone.

Previous very good subjects have been as follows:

  • What do we think of britain in Europe?
  • Is bad parenting to blame for rioting, looting and violence?
  • Platonic friendship is impossible between two people of the opposite sex!
  • Are women programmed to be subservient to men?
  • Pacifism is the only answer to the world's problems.
  • What is essential for the pursuit and achievement of happiness?
  • Do we have the right to impose our system of government on underdeveloped countries?
  • Is marriage becoming outdated?
